IFA opens new plant in the USA

An investment of over 60 million dollars in Charleston, South Carolina including land, building and equipment over the next five years

Creating over 120 additional jobs


Charleston, South Carolina (USA) March 15th, 2018. The IFA Group, a leading manufacturer of drive shafts for passenger cars and light commercial vehicles, opens its new plant in Charleston, South Carolina (USA) on March 15 with a formal ribbon cutting ceremony. In keeping with its Charleston roots, the new plant is only a few miles from the current plant. With a total investment of more than 60 million dollars, the production capacities will be significantly expanded. Around 120 additional jobs are expected to be created. The IFA Group currently produces propeller shafts for North American customers such as BMW, Fiat-Chrysler, Ford, General Motors, Mercedes and Volkswagen with around 600 employees. IFA has a total of eight development and production locations worldwide with over 2,500 employees.

In their speeches, Dr. Robert Gutsche, CEO of the IFA Group and Mauro Amarante, IFA CEO North America, acknowledged the importance of the new plant. "With our new plant in Charleston, we will significantly expand our capacities in the USA and further expand our market leadership with propeller shafts. After completing the consolidation of our sites in Charleston, we will have the capacity to produce over 10,000 shafts and 4,000 constant velocity joints per day. "

After the warehouse integration into the new plant, the production area will follow allowing the manufacturing of propeller shafts and constant velocity joints. The transfer of production equipment will occur gradually from the previous location to the new location. Following the relocation, up to 14 total production lines will be installed in the 40,000-square-meter plant.
